Neon Dynasty is set in the current era on Kamigawa, more than 1200 years after conclusion of the original Kamigawa block in 3326 AR. The plane's feudal past has met futuristic modernity, with ninjas and samurai now carrying a cyberpunk aesthetic. This setting is described as Magic: the Gathering's first science fiction plane.
Art treatments from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty feature an abundance of different styles to accentuate cards. Art treatments range from the expected Extended Art and Borderless cards, to 3 different types of Showcase frames including 12 Foil Etched cards, to 10 basic lands known as "Ukiyo-e" which show art in a traditional Japanese style on a Full Art basic land. Showcase treamtents include Ninja, Samurai, and Soft Glow depending on the flavor and story of the card being showcased. Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty also features 4 unique "Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos" cards in a treatment known as Neon Ink. Three of these cards known as "Blue," "Green,"" and "Red" are only found in Collector booster packs with each being rarer than the previous. The last one, "Yellow" is a promotional card that can be obtained from WPN premium stores.
